SOC 103 Nefarious Video Homework Assignment
Nefarious: Merchant of Souls is a hard-hitting documentary that exposes the disturbing trends of modern day sex slavery. From the first scene, Nefarious gives an in-depth look at the human trafficking industry, showing where slaves are sold (often in developed, affluent countries), where they work, and where they are confined. With footage shot in over nineteen different countries, Nefarious exposes the nightmare of sex slavery as experienced by hundreds of thousands daily, through the eyes of both the enslaved and their traffickers. Nefarious features expert analysis from international humanitarian leaders, and captures the gripping and triumphant testimonies of survivors in order to galvanize hope and vision. A s many as 2 million children are subjected to prostitution in the global commercial sex trade . Some of the causes of slavery mentioned in the movie were actions along the line of these females were promised hope for work if agreed to go with them, but ended up being false hope as they would abduct them and use them. Another way is that everybody would know they these girls in the orphanage would be used in sex trafficking deals, even the mothers would know, but nobody would tell nor get them the help needed to stay away from it, therefore, causing them to fall into the same process of every other female. My knowledge prior to the movie on this situation is that Atlanta is rumored to be one of the highest in Sex Trafficking services in the nation. The most interesting thing I've learned after watching this movie is that so many women fall into this trap everyday and everybody knows what is going on but yet nobody is able to do anything about it to fix the problem at hand. Once the problem gets fixed at the source then it would be much easier to be fixed at all of the secondary sources.
