First Airplane Ride
Emily’s heart was pumping so fast; she thought her chest was going to burst wide open. Dragging her bags along the cold floor of the airport, she could hardly suppress the anxiety, fear, and excitement running rampart through her body. An event of a lifetime was about to be fulfilled. She kept telling herself, “I am about to fly for the very first time!” Adrenaline was running through Emily’s veins like ice water. People were speedily going around as if she were standing still. She could hardly wait to board the airplane, even though she had no idea of what to expect. Always wanting to fly through the blue skies like a bird, high above the ground, Emily began to have second thoughts. Filled with anticipation, she picked her pace back up until she reached the boarding gate. After reaching her destination, she could see the lighted tunnel leading to the doors of the airplane. Approaching the large, gray, metal doors of the plane, all of a sudden, fear began to over take the excitement that once ran through her body. She thought to herself, “It’s too late to turn back now.” Just ahead she could see the crew helping people board the airplane. As Emily fumbled through her purse for her boarding pass, an eerie feeling came over her, “What if we crash?” Over and over this played in her head like an old worn out LP record.
