Good Lies? Bad Lies?
We have all lied once in our lives and most of us have lied numerous amounts of times to save an awkward moment or a difficult conflict. When a reader evaluates the three articles that have appeared in front of them, they are sure to find out how corporate America, a husband and wife, or just an ordinary person can lie about almost anything to gain an advantage. The first piece of work to be introduced is the writing, “Sex, Lies, and Conversation”, by Deborah Tannen. Tannen wrote this article in 1990 for the Washington Post. She is an American Academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. The second piece of work to be reviewed is by Eric Schlosser, an American journalist from New York City with a bachelor’s degree from Oxford and Princeton University, who wrote an interesting book in 2001 called Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side Story of All-American Meals. This contained an article by the name of, “Walt and Ray: Your Trusted Friends”. The final piece of work is “The Ways We Lie”, by Stephanie Ericsson. This article appeared in The Utne Reader in 1972.
