Children of the Corn Syrup
    In today’s society, many kids are overweight. Dr. Stephen W. Ponder was the guest speaker from Driscoll Children’s Hospital. Ponder is the director of the Children’s Diabetes & Endocrine Center. He says children that are overweight begin right from birth. Many parents make the mistake of over feeding the kids. Overweight children tend to be larger and taller than other children there age. These children also have tendencies of developing sleep apnea, which cause them to fall asleep during short car rides.
    Today’s society of fast-food meals does not help the children’s cause, either. Food serving portions have tripled in the last decade soft drinks have also gone up substantially to an average of 20 oz. These soft drinks play key roles another increase of childhood obesity.
Breast feeding infants can reduce the chance of obesity by four percent a month. Feeding children breakfast and lunch can help fight against obesity. Promoting better television watching habits can combat the increasing risk of childhood obesity.
    In conclusion people in general not just children become overweight when more calories are consumed than what is consumed. Calories are used in the process of producing energy. If more energy is eaten than used then extra calories become fat. Increasing physical activities and eating less calories will promote weight loss and decrease childhood obesity.
